Field Day

Summer Field Day 2024 is June 22-23

BARC Field Day 2024 will be at Penwood State Park. We have permission to use the brand new pavilion (photo below) both days but must be off-site by 9PM (no overnight camping). We will have a variety of antennas to choose from. Members can bring a rig if desired.

There are also several charcoal grills in the picnic area next to the pavilion so we can look forward to some great food this year, maybe a pot-luck supper. Chef Don will cook omelets to order for anyone making a QSO Sunday morning.

An added bonus: W1CWA is registered for POTA so we can use the spotting page to attract Field Day contacts that also count towards POTA awards. Club members who do POTA will have even more reasons to come and operate!

Reasons why we chose Penwood:
• Pavilion permits operation in foul weather
• Restrooms within walking distance
• Easy access for members via CT-185
• Car-accessible by the public without hiking
• Nice picnic tables for gear and food
• Charcoal grills available for a pot-luck supper
• Great trees for wire antennas
• Simultaneous Field Day + POTA is possible
• Penwood is in BLOOMFIELD

The above picture was taken just outside the pavilion. We intend to run primarily on battery power. Available antennas will cover all Field Day bands from 3.5 to 450 Mhz as desired by operators. We should be on the air Saturday from 2PM to 8PM and Sunday times TBD. Members should call in on 146.52 if possible before arriving which will count as legit QSOs.

Field Day Pot Luck Picnic @ 5PM Saturday

Members are asked to bring something to share:
• burgers / dogs / something for the grill
• buns for burgers / dogs / sandwiches
• side dish (potato salad / coleslaw / baked beans)
• cheese tray / charcuterie board
• chips / dip / salsa / hummus
• drinks
• charcoal for the grill
• supplies: plates, napkins, etc.

We will keep a running list to avoid dupes:
• WV1W will bring pasta salad with pesto
• WV1W will bring plastic cups and sporks
• WV1W will bring drinking water

Winter Field Day 2024

We participated WFD at Town Forest Park (Simsbury) on Saturday 27JAN2024. Members present included Ashley WA1ICN, Bill AB1LZ, Don WV1W, Jim K1AZ, Jim KC1FNM, Lisa KB7LK, Rich N1IXF, Skip W1FTE, and Tina KC1MTH. Jeff NY1P who lives nearby also joined us.
